Corporate Social Investment Initiative

The partners/shareholders of the Riverside Development Initiative pledged a percentage of net profits made on any of their developments to corporate social investment projects. To date three projects at an estimated value of over R 500,000 have been identified and are in the process of final planning and implementation. All three of these exciting projects meet the investment criteria of being focussed on previously disadvantaged communities and uplifting them through education, sport and/or community development initiatives and programmes.

The projects include the following:

  • refurbishment of the Isiah Khoza private college in Pienaar;
  • matching funding with the Provincial Department of Human Settlements to design and build a community facility and crèche for the newly settled Phumulani community in White River;
  • partnering with the Dreamfields project to establish a Dreamfield facility in the Acornhoek community. The Dreamfields project engaged one of the RDI shareholders to establish if one can find a way to grow the football dreams of young people in the Acornhoek area. The proposal involves a mix of hardware - upgrading a centrally located soccer field in the town - and software, where we provide schools with the equipment they need to play football and assist them to set up regular league-based soccer.

The Grove Football Team - based at Bonginhlanhla Sports Ground, KaNyamazane was founded in June 2007 and is chaired by Willy Nkosi. All players originate from the Daantjie area and are pupils from the Siyakhula Primary School, Ndlaphu Junior Secondary School and Bonginhlanhla High School. They practice three times a week at Bonginhlanhla sports grounds. RDI has kitted them out with red and white shirts, white shorts and red and white socks. Goalkeepers will be dressed in black and white.
