Riverside Mall Hosting Children's Art Festival Prize Giving Ceremony

For Immediate Release
24 July 2009

Riverside Mall is hosting the Children's Art Festival-Prize Giving Ceremony on Saturday 25 July 2009 at 10 o'clock at the Mall's Food Court. The aim of the event is to give recognition to the artistic talent of children in the Lowveld and to eventually host it annually and have it grow from strength to strength. Schools were invited early this year to submit their pupil's artwork with the theme "How Do You See Riverside Mall".

We had impressive colourful, lively art entries of more than 1 600 pupils from grade one through to grade twelve. All artwork submitted was placed on display in the Mall from the 9th to the 21st of June 2009. The schools that participated were:

  • Penryn Preparatory School
  • Penryn College
  • Uplands Preparatory
  • St Peters Primary School
  • Lowveld High School
  • The King's School
  • White River Primary School

We had three categories; category 1 consisted of artwork from grade 0 – 4, category 2 were artworks from grades 5 – 7, category 3 were artworks from grades 8 - 12 and from each category three winners were selected. The judging was done by independent judges whose artistic aptitude was tested in deciding on the best work. Every child is seen as a winner and will therefore be awarded with a certificate of participation and a voucher from Detroit Spur. Third place winners receive a Gift Card of R150 from Riverside Mall, Second Place winners receive a Gift Card of R300 from Riverside Mall, and first place winners receive a Gift Card of R500 from Riverside Mall. All first place winners will receive an additional R 5000 cash prize courtesy of Riverside Mall for their schools.
